35-point win for Kildare in O’Byrne Cup while Meath and Laois on course for battle to reach semi-finals
Neil Flynn, Bobby O’Brien and Gary Walsh all raised green flags tonight.
MEATH AND LAOIS will battle in a clash next Saturday night that will decide who advances to the O’Byrne Cup semi-finals, while Kildare and Louth are both in pole positions in their groups to also advance to the last four stage.
It was Kildare who gave the performance of the night in the group stages as they handed out a 35-point beating to the students of IT Carlow to win 4-24 to 0-1 tonight. David Slattery, Cathal McNally, Neil Flynn and Tommy Moolick all netted for the Lilywhites.
They’re top of Group 2 on four points and only need a point from Sunday’s clash against Offaly. The Faithful county are on two points along with Longford, who defeated Offaly tonight by 2-9 to 0-11.
In Group 3, Saturday night’s game between Laois and Meath in Stradbally will be decisive after both picked up their second win tonight. Laois were 2-17 to 1-8 winners over Wicklow with Ruairi O’Connor and Gary Walsh their goalscorers. Meath defeated Dublin IT by 2-15 to 0-10 as Bobby O’Brien and Donal Lenihan both netted.
In Group 4, Louth enjoyed their second pre-season victory with a 1-13 to 1-8 success against Maynooth University. They are top on four points, ahead of Westmeath and Carlow. It finished 2-15 to 1-15 in Wesmeath’s favour tonight against Carlow.
