All the celebrity weddings we can look forward to this year
Who doesn’t love a wedding? This momentous life-changing event is the day couples say ‘I do’ to their chosen other half reaffirming that romance is real, love is the answer and fairy tales can come true.
And as special as our own nuptials are, other people’s weddings — especially royal weddings and celebrities’ nuptials — are also of exceptional interest for the romantics among us to sigh and swoon over.
It really seemed as though almost the entire world tuned into watch Prince Harry marry his sweetheart, Meghan Markle, in spectacular style in Windsor last May. Equally, when Kim Kardashian West married Kanye West in an extravagant celebration in Italy in 2014 the world collectively stayed glued to social media hoping for any slight detail from the wedding and even still, five years after they tied the knot, we’re still excited for any new photo from the day.
This interest is completely understandable not only because everyone loves a wedding, but also because celebrities and royals do weddings on a scale that is mind-blowing. The wedding budget is often huge lending itself to out-of-this-world nuptials from custom designer wedding gowns to Grammy-winning singers performing live concert-style sets like Sir Elton John did during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding reception.
With a number of celebrity engagements including Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost (pictured above), and Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas — who are already married but planning a second wedding — 2019 is shaping up to be a banner year for celebrity weddings. Here, we chart all the celebrity weddings to look forward to this year.
Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner married Joe Jonas in a surprise Las Vegas wedding directly after the 2019 Billboard Music Awards. The bride wore an affordable wedding jumpsuit and the ceremony was officiated over by an Elvis Presley impersonator/celebrant.
However, in a recent interview on , Turner revealed that they are planning a second wedding to be held in late June this year in France. A source confirmed to E! News that the Las Vegas wedding was only one part of the wedding plan. “Their real wedding will be in France this summer, but they thought this would be a fun way to make it legal,” the source told .
Further details of their French wedding have just been revealed including that “a really wild cake” will be involved. “Joe and Sophie want to have a huge party [for their second wedding]”, a source told Us Weekly. “The decor is going to be sophisticated, but there’ll be some kitschy elements, including a really wild cake. There’ll be a live band, and the Jonas Brothers are expected to take the stage.”
Big Little Lies actress Zoë Kravitz is rumoured to have secretly wed her beau, Karl Glusman, earlier this year, and just like Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas, they’re reported to be planning a second wedding in France. Turner and Jonas are said to be holding their wedding on the last weekend in June in France and in an incredible coincidence, Us Weekly reports Kravitz and Glusman are holding their second wedding on the same weekend, also in France. Do the two couples have the same guest list and are making it easy for their friends to attend both? We’ll have to wait until the last weekend in June to find out.
Avengers actress Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost announced their engagement in May this year after dating for two years. No news yet on any wedding details, but if Johansson invites her cast mates from Avengers and Jost invites his Saturday Night Live buddies this will be one star-studded wedding.
In March this year, A-list power couple Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez announced their engagement after two years of dating. Rodriguez proposed with a incredible emerald cut diamond ring said to be worth between US$1 million and US$5 million dollars and we’re guessing the couple’s nuptials will follow similar extravagant suit.
Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence and her art dealer boyfriend Cooke Maroney confirmed they were engaged in February. The actress has kept the relationship very private, but the couple recently held an engagement party — to which Lawrence wore a beautiful blush gown from a bridal designer — so we’re expecting the actual nuptials to be imminent.
British actor Orlando Bloom reportedly proposed to award-winning, chart-topping singer Katy Perry on Valentine’s Day. She said yes and they headed to an engagement party Bloom had organised ahead of his proposal. After celebrating with their friends and family, Perry announced the engagement to the world, posting a picture of the ring to Instagram with the sweet caption “full bloom”.
Hailey and Justin Bieber got engaged after a whirlwind relationship of just a few months — although they had known each other for nearly a decade before that. After their swift engagement the couple tied the knot in a civil ceremony at the New York City courthouse in September 2018. The couple reportedly plan to throw a wedding celebration for their friends and family sometime this year. The wedding was slated for February 28, but that date was retracted after the couple reportedly sent out a save the date and received notice from a number of guests that they wouldn’t be able to attend. No news on a new date.
Everyone’s favourite Younger star, Hilary Duff, announced her engagement to musician Matthew Koma in May this year. Duff and Koma have a six-month-old daughter, Banks Violet Bair, together and Duff has a son, Luca Cruz Comrie, 6, with her previous husband, Mike Comrie.
Musician Alexander DeLeon proposed to his Victoria’s Secret Angel girlfriend Josephine Skriver while watching the Northern Lights, on top of a frozen lake in Scandinavia, in November 2018. The Victoria’s Secret Angel shared details of the incredibly romantic proposal with the world via Instagram, writing “I SAID HELL-FREAKIN’-YES!!!!”
It seems love is in the air for the Victoria’s Secret set with Victoria’s Secret model Devon Windsor also receiving an epic proposal from her boyfriend, Johnny Dex, last year. Windsor shared that she thought she was flying to a photo shoot, and instead she looked down from the private plane and saw the words “Marry me?” in the sand on an island below.
