2016 HURLER OF the Year Austin Gleeson returned from suspension for Waterford IT as they claimed victory in the Fitzgibbon Cup against Trinity College tonight by 4-15 to 1-8 in Santry.
Gleeson missed last week’s loss to DCU but was back for a victory that ensured WIT still have a chance of reaching the knockout stages but they must claim success over Limerick IT next week in their final group game.
Tipperary’s Liam McGrath hit 0-7 for the winners while Waterford’s Shane Ryan scored a brace of goals. Substitute Cork’s Andrew Joyce and Offaly’s Joe O’Connor also raised green flags.
WIT were in front 2-6 to 1-4 at the interval and ran out 16-point winners against a Trinity College side for whom Dublin’s Cian O’Sullivan struck 1-6.

Elsewhere tonight, IT Carlow mounted a second-half revival to grab a 0-18 apiece draw with Limerick’s Mary Immaculate College.
Reigning champions Mary Immaculate were ahead 0-13 to 0-6 at the break but IT Carlow responded to go in front in the finale before Mary Immaculate drew level at the finish.
