The finals of WWE’s Mixed Match Challenge is set to take place next week as the team of Asuka & Intercontinental Champion The Miz takes on the team of SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair & Bobby Roode. Asuka and Intercontinental Champion The Miz are strong favorites to win the WWE Mixed Match Challenge and according to a backstage source, this was always the plan since the get go, likely due to the fact that Asuka’s undefeated streak is on the line. Once WWE decided to include matches in the MMC as part of Asuka’s streak being on the line, it was a foregone conclusion that her team would have to win. According to this same source, Asuka may stay undefeated until she faces Ronda Rousey, which could be pushed all the way out to WrestleMania 35.
As we all know by now, the relationship of Sasha Banks & Bayley have reached a breaking point that they had a backstage brawl last Monday night on RAW. It was believed that the two will go one on one in a singles match at WrestleMania 34. But it seems that WWE decided not to push through with the match the reason being that there was time constraints and that the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal needed some star power. With 14 matches already scheduled and the announcement of the inaugural Women’s Battle Royal, WWE felt that the Sasha/Bayley storyline could be furthered with them being two of the stronger talent who will appear in the battle royal, especially with Alexa Bliss, Nia Jax, Asuka, Charlotte and Ronda Rousey booked in other matches.
