Chelsea star in trio of Sancho alternatives for Man Utd

Manchester United have reportedly identified three alternatives to Jadon Sancho, should their pursuit of the Borussia Dortmund star again end in disappointment.

A report on Thursday claims United have made their first official offer for Sancho, thought to be £60million.

But that offer looks set to be rejected by Dortmund, who value the England international at £78million. It’s Groundhog Day.

At least United are looking at other options, this time.

Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele has just one year left on his current contract at the Nou Camp and is yet to agree new terms, despite the club reportedly keen to extend his deal.

Signed for a whopping £135million from Dortmund in 2017, he’s failed to live up to that lofty price tag, scoring 18 goals in 81 La Liga appearances.

If he fails to sign a new deal, United could land him in a cut-price fee this summer.

United are also thought to be open to reuniting with Cristiano Ronaldo, with his representatives said to have contacted Old Trafford officials in an attempt to engineer a move for the 36-year-old.

The Portuguese legend has one year left on his Juventus contract but is said to be frustrated following their failure to win Serie A for the first time in a decade last season.

The other name on the United short-list is said to be Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has struggled for regular game time under Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.

Bayern Munich are also interested in the Chelsea academy graduate, with both Bayern and United attracted by his versatility.

But Hudson-Odoi says he is happy at Chelsea and is willing to fight for his place.

And Tuchel has explained exactly what the young winger needs to do to start more regularly.

“Callum needs to understand how to use his potential. He needs to understand how to push himself to the absolute limit, not be happy with 80, 85, 90, 95 percent. He must simply be not happy about it any single day. This is the thing he has to learn, understand and live for.

“Once he does this, he will make his way and leave his footprint. In his position, it’s about assisting and scoring. Don’t forget that, we don’t have to talk around that. Big talent is a big responsibility and this is what he’s trying hard [to realise]. Sometimes better, sometimes ok, sometimes very, very good.

“When we have a chance we let him play. Don’t forget that we only have three changes in England, that is a big disadvantage for the guys like Callum and Tammy [Abraham] We can’t give them 20 minutes here and there that could make a huge difference to their feeling and development.”
