Chelsea upset by Neville, Carra’s ‘harsh’ comments on one player
Chelsea are unhappy at comments made by Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher about Ruben Loftus-Cheek, according to reports.
The 24-year-old has finally been able to shake the Achilles injury that prematurely ended his 2018/19 campaign and bit into much of last season as he recovered from surgery.
The England international played just seven times in the Premier League last term but Lampard chose to start the midfielder in Chelsea’s first game of the season against Brighton on Monday.

He played in behind main striker Timo Werner as Frank Lampard experimented with his attacking line-up and the Chelsea boss has commented that he could start him there again.
“Ruben obviously has been out for a long time and even his return to play was pretty broken by the lockdown and the restart when he was just available to play a few games,” Lampard told the club’s official website.
“So we certainly have to give him a bit of time on those fronts.
“It’s a position [No.10] that Ruben can play for us. We’ve got injuries with [Hakim] Ziyech out and [Christian] Pulisic out as well.
“They are players that will come back and give me lots of options, so it was interesting for me to see Ruben in that number 10 position, he can certainly give us lots in those areas.”
However, Neville and Carragher were not pleased with what they saw Loftus-Cheek produce in the 3-1 win over Brighton.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: “I thought he was really disappointing. I don’t think Loftus-Cheek can complain. He’s been given games. I don’t think he’s ever grasped his chance yet. There’s going to come a point when they’re going to cash in and get £25 million for him.”
Fellow pundit Carragher added: “If you get your chance, you have to grab it. He’s had his chances now.”
And now The Athletic claims that Neville and Carragher’s comments ‘have not been well-received inside the camp’ at Chelsea.
An insider told the website: “It was so harsh to jump on Loftus-Cheek after he’s been out of the game so long.”
