Fernandes explains on-pitch row with Lindelof in Man Utd loss
Bruno Fernandes has called his on-pitch row with Victor Lindelof “normal” as Man Utd crashed out of the Europa League in a 2-1 loss to Sevilla.
An evening that started with Fernandes opening the scoring from the spot ended in disappointment in Cologne, where ex-Liverpool man Suso equalised midway through the first half.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side made a blistering start to the second period but a mixture of poor finishing and Yassine Bounou’s superb performance between the sticks set Sevilla up for a famous semi-final win sealed by Newcastle flop Luuk de Jong.

And following the winning goal from De Jong, Fernandes directed his frustration towards Man Utd team-mate Lindelof, who shouted back at the Portugal international.
Fernandes told BT Sport: “I think it’s normal, you know, when you [concede] a goal in the last [minutes]. We have 10 minutes after to score again. Everyone was mad, you know. It’s not about me or Victor, it’s about every team.
“What happened between me and Victor is nothing. It’s normal, it’s football, it happens. It’s looking for each other, you know.
“There will be much more times these things happen in other teams and everything. The most important thing now is we need to see the mistakes everyone did and look forward to improve in the next games.”
On the incident, Solskjaer said: “It was a disappointing goal to give away because we were on the counter-attack, Anthony [Martial] gets brought down – how he doesn’t get booked, I don’t know.
“But then the ball keeps on playing, we work to keep it in and we lose the ball. Maybe it’s a disappointing goal to concede and I want players to be accountable and hold others to account.
“Then again, the cross got deflected, Brandon got a bit unlucky, Victor just gets caught with the ball looping over him after that deflection so I think that was just a bit of frustration that took the boys.”
