First look: inside the National Portrait Gallery’s Women in Vogue: Celebrating Sixty years in Australia exhibition

This year Australia will celebrate 60 years of its rich history, marking the important occasion with one very special exhibition. The National Portrait Gallery will present , an exhibition that will run from October 11, 2019 to November 24, 2019, and will showcase six decades of the magazine.

“The elegant and contemporary exhibition will draw on our archive and highlight Australia’s role in documenting the changing roles and diversity of Australian womanhood over two generations,” shared Australia’s editor-in-chief, Edwina McCann. “I couldn’t think of a better way to start our 60th anniversary celebrations.”

tracks the preeminent fashion title from its very first issue in 1959, all the way to the present day. The National Portrait Gallery has presented this exhibition as a three-part narrative – Looking Back, Looking Out and Looking Forward, inviting the viewer to reflect on the incredible women who have graced the pages of Australia as well as looking ahead to the future.
