Inter chief reveals main issue in Sanchez talks with Man Utd

Inter Milan CEO Guiseppe Marotta has confirmed the club’s interest in bringing Alexis Sanchez to the club permanently and says it “would be a shame” if Man Utd couldn’t “reach an agreement” with them.

Sanchez joined Man Utd in a part-exchange deal from Arsenal, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving the other way. But the forward struggled immensely at Old Trafford, scoring just five goals for the club in 45 appearances.

He was sent on loan to Inter Milan in the summer but has been unable to establish himself under Antonio Conte due to injury. However, the Italian side are understood to be keen on bringing him to the club permanently at the end of the season with his form improving since lockdown.

Man Utd did allow Inter to extend Sanchez’s loan deal until the end of the domestic season but reports claim they are unwilling to allow him to play in the Europa League as the Red Devils are also participants.

There have been reports over the last couple of days that Sanchez had agreed a deal with Inter but that Man Utd still wanted a £15m fee for the Chilean.

And Marotta said on Tuesday evening that Inter are keen on Sanchez but hinted that a deal wasn’t close.

“It is not easy, he has a two-year contract with Manchester United, a heavy contract,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

“So we have to evaluate this type of situation, in addition to any negotiation. It would be a shame if we couldn’t reach an agreement because we would like Sanchez both today and in the future, he is an excellent guy.”
