Jackrabbit wrestlers move into top 25
MANHEIM, Pa. — For the first time as a Division I program, the South Dakota State University wrestling team has cracked the top 25 in a national poll.
Tuesday afternoon, the Jackrabbits vaulted into the 24th spot in the USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association Top 25. SDSU has moved into the rankings on the strength of winning 11 consecutive duals, tying the school record previously set during the 1972-73 season and matched during the 1985-86 campaign.
South Dakota State, coached by Chris Bono, is one of four Big 12 Conference teams ranked in this week’s top 25, joining fourth-ranked Oklahoma State, No. 7 Oklahoma and 16th-ranked Iowa State. The Jackrabbits will close out the home dual season Friday with a 7 p.m. match against West Virginia before traveling to Oklahoma on Sunday.
The Jackrabbits enter the weekend with a 12-5 dual record, with all five losses against ranked teams. SDSU owns a dual victory over No. 25 CSU Bakersfield, which also cracked the rankings on Tuesday.
