Liverpool have conceded defeat in their attempts to keep Georginio Wijnaldum at Anfield with the Dutchman keen to join Barcelona, according to reports.

The Dutch midfielder has emerged as a key target for new Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman, who worked with him closely during his time in charge of the Netherlands.

Wijnaldum has less than a year remaining on his contract at Liverpool, who must resist any attempts to sign him this summer.

Some reports even suggest that Wijnaldum has already agreed personal terms over a move to the Nou Camp, but his immediate future remains uncertain.

And now the Daily Mirror claims that Liverpool ‘have told Barcelona it will cost them £15m’ to sign Wijnaldum this summer.

Barcelona ‘were hoping to land’ the 29-year-old for £10m but that ‘doesn’t match Liverpool’s valuation’ with the Reds forking out £23m to sign him from Newcastle United in 2016.

Liverpool ‘know they have lost the battle to keep’ the Netherlands international with the club’s owners refusing to ‘contemplate him leaving for free next summer’.

The report in the Daily Mirror concludes by saying that both clubs ‘believe a compromise will be reached’.
