Liverpool ‘turned down chance’ to sign Real Madrid midfielder
Liverpool rejected the chance to sign Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente as he was not ‘a priority’ for Jurgen Klopp, according to the player’s agent.
The 24-year-old is now set to join Real’s city neighbours Atletico Madrid but if things had been different he could have ended up Merseyside.
Llorente‘s agent and uncle, Julio Llorente, explained the decision to make Atletico his next club after much speculation surrounding his next destination, with Chelsea and Tottenham also credited with interest.

“I contacted several clubs to let them know what had happened, the conversation that Zidane and Marcos had,” Julio Llorente told Cadena SER.
“One of them was Liverpool, but Marcos’ position was covered and it wasn’t a priority. But Atlético are those who perhaps took the strongest step and convinced us. I think we’re right. I hope it’s like that, I hope Marcos does very well.”
Llorente only managed 12 appearances in all competitions last season for Los Blancos and Zinedine Zidane did little to convince the player his future remained at the Bernabeu.
