MONAGHAN MOVED BACK to joint-top of Division 1 of the Allianz Football League with a comfortable 2-17 to 1-13 win over Roscommon in Inniskeen today.

Jack McCarron was the hero, finishing with 1-7 to his name as Monaghan continue to move away from an over-reliance on Conor McManus.

McManus kicked 0-4, including two frees, while substitute Owen Duffy bagged 1-1 to leave Malachy O’Rourke’s men on seven points and tied with Dublin, Donegal and Tyrone at the top of the top flight.

Roscommon meanwhile are staring down the barrel of relegation after suffering their fifth straight loss in the division.

Shane Carey, Dessie Ward and Darren Hughes were among the scorers in the opening-half as Monaghan led by 0-12 to 0-8 at the interval.

Ultan Harney, Paddy Brogan and Ronan Stack were introduced by Kevin McStay at half-time but Monaghan had the game killed off by the 60th minute.

McCarron and Duffy raised green flags during that spell to put the result beyond doubt.

In Division 2, Sean Quigley kicked eight points as Fermanagh gave their survival hopes a huge boost with a 0-18 to 1-10 defeat of Clare.

Fermanagh are now level on points with Cork and Down in the second tier, while Clare remain in fourth place – just two points off second-placed Galway.

The sides were level four times in the opening half as the Erne men led by 0-8 to 0-7 at the break. Keelan Sexton palmed in a goal on 46 minutes, but Fermanagh responded with the next five points to round off the win.
