WWE 205 Live Results (07/17): Akira Tozawa vs. Lio Rush
Tonight’s episode of 205 Live opens up with General Manager Drake Maverick recapping the events that took place last week. Drake Maverick also hypes up Hideo Itami’s losing effort and promises to address Cedric Alexander’s next title defense before the end of the show. Maverick then talks up Rush vs. Tozawa and introduces the opener by recapping Dar’s win over TJP a few weeks back.

Before the first match of the night, TJP gets on the mic. He says what a treat because he actually knows who he’s facing tonight. TJP then talks some trash about Drake Maverick, making him come out to open the show. TJP then calls the town “Wilks-Boring.” TJP then says that unfortunately for Dar, his comeback story is going to be a comeback sentence. TJP then says “I am still the ‘Cruiser-Great’ and the best technical wrestler in the game.”
TJP vs. Noam Dar: TJP tries for the quick start, but Dar nearly finishes him off like he did last week. TJP is out to the floor. Dar follows and continues his attack before tossing TJP back in the ring. Back and forth action with Dar getting the best of his opponent until TJP side-steps him. Dar heads up to the second rope, but TJP with a kick to the head of Dar. TJP sends Dar into the turnbuckle a couple of times. Drake Maverick looks on from the back. TJP is able to transition to a pin, but only gets a two count. TJP snaps Dar’s arm back then goes for a couple of pin attempts. TJP tries for a flying crossbody, but nobody home. Dar charges in, but gets a boot to the face. TJP goes up to the top, but gets his feet kicked out from under him. Dar with some palm thrusts followed by a release overhead suplex, then goes for a cover, but only gets a two count. TJP tries for the detonation kick, but doesn’t get it. Dar with a lariat to the back of TJP’s neck, then goes for the cover, but only gets a two count. Dar with a roll-up, but TJP counters it into a pin attempt, but only gets a two count. Dar is thrown into the second rope throat-first. TJP tries for another springboard kick, but doesn’t get it. Both are now on the apron. TJP drops to the floor and kicks out Dar’s leg. Dar is selling his knee injury. TJP with a chop block followed by a single leg boston crab over the rope. TJP locks Dar in a kneebar in the middle of the ring and Dar has to tap out due to the pain. Winner: TJP
We see a video package from last Tuesday’s Cruiserweight Title Match between Cedric Alexander and Hideo Itami. Alexander would retain the title.
We get a promo from Mustafa Ali talking about his No DQ Match against Buddy Murphy from two weeks ago. Ali says that he could have just stayed down, but he didn’t because he doesn’t just fight for himself, he fights for everyone. Ali continues by saying that he won’t stop until he becomes the champion.
Drew Gulak makes his way down to the ring with Gentleman Jack Gallagher and The Brian Kendrick. Kendrick shakes hands with his opponent before the next match.
Drew Gulak (with The Brian Kendrick & Jack Gallagher) vs. Danny Garcia: Gulak with a big lariat followed by a backdrop driver, then locks in The Gu-Lock submission and his opponent passes out. Winner: Drew Gulak
After the match, Gulak gets on the mic and says that you don’t always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need. Gulak then says that the crowd has been subjected for two years with unworthy champions. Gulak then says that that will change when he becomes the champ. He calls Alexander out and says “If you step to me, you will tap out.”
We see a video package recapping last Tuesday’s match between Kalisto and Tony Nese. Murphy would end up getting involved and costs Nese the match via DQ. Murphy would end up fight all of Lucha House Party. Nese would have to pull Murphy away from the group.
We head backstage where Dasha Fuentes interviews Buddy Murphy and Tony Nese. She asks Murphy what caused him to lose his temper during last week’s match. Murphy says that he doesn’t like to lose and those guy were at the wrong place at the wrong time. Murphy then says that ultimately, he felt bad that Nese couldn’t finish off Kalisto. Tony Nese then says that next week he will finish off Kalisto, one-on-one, with no teammates ringside.
Lio Rush vs. Akira Tozawa: Lots of stalling early on by Rush who finds salvation in the ropes. He gets Tozawa in a headlock for a moment. Rush with a redirection off the ropes, then hits a second rope hurricanrana. Rush lays out Tozawa on the top turnbuckle. We see Maverick for a moment, with a smirk on his face and shaking his head. Rush continues to avoid Tozawa who catches him with a kick to the chest. Tozawa with a senton splash, then ends up mocking Rush using the same taunt. Couple of chops by Tozawa who ends up on the apron. Rush with a handspring kick that sends Tozawa to the floor. Tozawa is back in the ring, but gets stomped on. Rush does some trash talking. Rush hits a suplex, then goes for a cover, but only gets a one count. Rush chops down Tozawa, then hits a couple of elbow drops. Forearms from both wrestlers. Tozawa with a couple of chops, then fakes a punch. Rush dodges Tozawa’s next couple of punches. Rush gets caught and sent to the floor. Tozawa with a suicide dive that lands squarely. Tozawa heads up to the top rope, then hits a missile dropkick, then goes for a cover, but only gets a two count. Rush with a slap to Tozawa, who didn’t appreciate that at all. Snap suplex by Tozawa, then heads up top, but Rush heads to the floor. Tozawa tries for a suicide dive and Rush dodges that much to Tozawa’s frustration. Back in the ring, Tozawa tries to go up top again, but Rush pulls his feet out from under him. Rush with a split-legged frog splash, then goes for a cover, and that will do it. Winner: Lio Rush
After the match, Cedric Alexander talks with Drake Maverick about who his next challenger will be. Maverick says that next week it will be Drew Gulak vs. Hideo Itami vs. TJP vs. Mustafa Ali in a Fatal 4-Way Match with the winner getting a shot against Alexander. 205 Live goes off the air with Lio Rush celebrating in the ring.
